A marcha e a síncope: dois elementos contrastantes na estrutura do ritmo de samba

Esse artigo propõe refletir sobre dois elementos estruturais do ritmo de samba: a síncope, tida como expressão de autenticidade e a marcialidade, alvo de crescente discussão em função da severa aceleração do andamento nas últimas décadas. Tendo como referencial os trabalhos de Sandroni (2001), Cardoso (2006) e Oliveira Pinto (1999) a respeito da rítmica da música afro-brasileira, conclui-se que tanto síncope como marcha, são elementos que se manifestam claramente e de forma complementar no movimento de “pergunta e resposta” e na “imparidade rítmica”, ambos recorrentes no fraseado musical do samba.

The martial rhythmic and the syncope: two contrasting elements in the structure of the samba rhythm

This paper proposes a reflection on two structural elements of samba rhythm: syncope, taken like an expression of authenticity and the martial rhythm, subject of growing discussion because of the increasing acceleration of the tempo in recent decades. Taken as a reference the work of Sandroni (2001), Cardoso (2006) and Oliveira Pinto (1999) about the rhythmic of the afro-Brazilian music, it’s concluded that both syncope and the martial rhythm are elements that manifest themselves clearly and complementary in the “question and answer” movement and in the “rhythmic impairment”, both plaintiffs in musical phrasing of the samba.
