“Célula Germinal” e suas Implicações Estruturais na Música de Arnold Schoenberg

O presente artigo busca aprofundar a questão da recorrência da assim chamada “célula germinal” na música de Arnold Schoenberg, abrangendo praticamente toda sua trajetória criativa. Ao lado de comentários sobre a peculiar organização intervalar de tal célula e uma breve especulação sobre prováveis razões dessa preferência, o cerne deste estudo é dedicado à análise de peças selecionadas dos períodos serial, atonal e, principalmente, tonal do compositor, visando explicitar os meios através dos quais o elemento construtivo/ célula se insere nas estruturas melódico-harmônicas das referidas obras.

The “Germinal Cell” and its Structural Implications in the Music of Arnold Schoenberg

The present paper is aimed at a deeper analysis of the recurrence of the so-called “germinal cell” in the music of Arnold Schoenberg, present for almost the entirety of his creative career. In addition to some comments on the peculiar intervallic organization of this cell and a short speculation about any probable reasons for such a preference, the focus of this study is directed to the analysis of selected pieces of Schoenberg’s serial, atonal and especially tonal periods, aiming at explicating the means used to insert the constructive element/cell into the melodic-harmonic structures of the works used as examples.
