Disney em ritmo de samba: aprendendo teoria musical pela apreciação de arranjos

Em 2010, a Walt Disney Records lançou uma coleção de discos contendo releituras de canções de seus filmes animados, apresentando versões em jazz, country, bossa nova, bluegrass e samba. A partir de uma análise de arranjos musicais constantes nessa coleção, este artigo discute a possibilidade de utilizar a comparação da versão original com a adaptação para trabalhar aspectos relacionados ao ensino de teoria musical. Delimitamos nosso enfoque aos arranjos do disco “Disney Adventures in Samba”, que apresenta adaptações de músicas de filmes da Disney para o gênero samba. No novo arranjo, são acrescentadas notas pontuadas e síncopes no lugar de notas com duração mais regular; o andamento em algumas músicas é acelerado e em outras é desacelerado; a instrumentação é sempre muito diferente da original, com o uso de cavaquinho e pandeiro, por exemplo. Pela audição consciente dessas diferenças, serão introduzidos conceitos de teoria musical. A orientação teórica que prevalece neste trabalho respalda-se nas visões de Keith Swanwick e Cecília França, por intermédio das quais serão orientadas as discussões sobre a relevância da apreciação musical como ferramenta pedagógica. Por fim, o artigo relata experiências e resultados obtidos na aplicação desta atividade em duas turmas de teoria musical com alunos de 6 e de 14 anos, em uma escola particular especializada em música da cidade de Fortaleza.

Disney in samba rhythm: learning music theory by appreciating arrangements

In 2010, the Walt Disney Records released a disc collection with reinterpretations of the songs of its movies, presenting versions in jazz, country, bossa nova, bluegrass and samba. Considering the analysis of the musical arrangements showed in this collection, this article discuss the possibility of comparing the original version with the adapted version, in order to develop the aspects related to the music theory teaching. We delimitate our focus to the arrangements showed in the disc “Disney Adventures in Samba”, which shows adaptations of the Disney songs to the genre samba. In the new arrangement, dotted notes and syncopes are added in substitution of regular notes; the tempo in some songs is accelerated and in other songs is decelerated; the instrumentation is always very different from the original, using cavaquinho and pandeiro, for example. By listening these differences consciously, it will be introduced concepts of music theory. The theoretical orientation that predominates in this article is based in the ideas of Keith Swanwick and Cecília França, which will guide the discussions about the relevance of the musical appreciation as an educational tool. Lastly, this article reports experiences of the application of this activity in two music theory classes, with students from 6 to 14 years old in a private school specialized in music in Fortaleza city.
